So I saw this video that Music Fog did of Matt the Electrican, who is actually someone I’ve 
listened to a couple of times but never a full album. I was intrigued by the instrument and the music so I went to Rhapsody today and looked for the new album Animal Boy which they didn’t have, instead I loaded Long Way Home his 2004 release on the mp3 player. I have been listening all day and I really like the album. The album is full of quirky songs like “Valedictorian” where the Valedictorian takes her clothes off and says “I ain’t never gonna see you folks again” and “Water” and there are a lot of other good songs.

Once upon a time, there was a young man named Matt Sever. He lived in Austin, TX, and he worked as a journeyman electrician. Every morning, when it was still dark outside, he would go to work, and wire houses all day long in the blistering Texas heat. When he would come home, again, it was dark outside. And then, sometimes, with no time to shower or change his clothes, he would go straight to the bars and nightclubs of Austin to play his songs for whomever would listen. And he would apologize for his appearance, and explain to the audience that he was an electrician, and he found a certain nobility in this, even if no one wanted to sit too close to the stage. I also listened to an album by a Folk Favorite Tom Paxton the album released in 2006 was Live at McCabe’s Guitar Shop based upon the songs that Tom says are new the recording dates from the early 1990s and is a good collection of Tom’s songs and the live banter between Tom and the audience is good! A lot of old favorites are there like “Ramblin’ Boy”, “Bottle of Wine” and “The Last Thing on My Mind” and lots of other favorites of mine including: “If I Pass This Way Again”, “When Annie Took Me Home”, “Home To Me”, and “It’ Ain’t Easy” and actually all of the 18 tracks are favorites! It’s an all around good sampling of some of Tom’s best and a fun album. So if you’ve never listened to Tom it’s a good place to start!
