So one would think that sometime over the last 23 years that I would have heard the music of Paul Kamm and Eleanore MacDonald! But alas it took until today and a review of the Roots Music Report see their names and then a trip to Rhapsody to listen to their music and I’m glad I made the trip! Their new CD From the Fire debuted on the Report at 29 this week and was not available at Rhapsody so I listened to their previous release Like Water. What I found was a collection of well crafted songs both lyrically and musically! Their voices blend together so well. From their website:
” I heard Paul Kamm and Eleanore MacDonald at 4:30 in the morning and was sure I must have been dreaming, I pulled them aside the next day and made them sing again to prove that it wasn’t a mirage, and they are for real, GREAT writing and harmonies that can fuse your spine”.
ELLIS PAULBoth Paul & Eleanore have “sure and graceful voices but oh, when
they meld it’s one of those majestic, sinfully rich pleasures– like
a musical S’more…” (Dirty Linen Mag. #40)their own gentle yet persuasive style of combination of storytelling, luscious melody and haunting harmony with love, peace, justice and dreamy arrangements thrown into the mix.

Kamm and MacDonald hail from Nevada City, Califormia and have been award winners at Kerrville, Telluride and Rocky Mtn.New Folk. They have also been working tirelessly for peace and justice and the last few years have found them working quite often alongside their respected elder; raconteur, wobblie and rabble rouser U. Utah Phillips.
Many of the songs like “Talk Radio”, “Talking About Freedom”, “The Judas Silver” and “Salt in My Tears” make strong political statements and are my favorites. But other songs like , “Like Water” and “Peace Jumpers” are equally wonderful!
